Its an interesting possibility. I drive an RX-8 and a 1st gen RX-7
before that, so I know a little about rotaries. The 12A from the early
cars would probably work, although the 13B doesn't produce
dramatically more power (135 HP NA) and is probably far easier to
source repair parts for. Also, the tuner market means there are tons
of aftermarket parts for the things, so engine computers for EFI are
readily obtainable (if pricey).

The biggest concern (after the transmission) would be heat, I imagine.
The engines notoriously run quite hot, and without some fairly serious
fans and insulation, your rear seats will probably double as a pizza
oven. OTOH, I might just be speaking from my nether regions.
