Re: newsletter website forum

OK, I just restored and fixed the even more feature filled vBulletin amphicar forum with the gateway (albeit crude) to Yahoogroup. Have at it, there are forums, photo galleries, chat, etc. all set to go PLEASE try it. If consensus is that people prefer the forum format I will move the Yahoogroup here. www.amphicar770.com

I actually created two web bulletin boards a couple years ago. One is still running at
http://amphicar770. com/forums/
Both had all of the features Dave talks about.

I received a lot of feedback when I asked people to try the two forums and decide if we should migrate the Yahoogroup to one of them. While there were some strong voices in support of moving, the OVERWHELMING majority of people wanted to keep it in Yahoogroups. The main reason for this was related to the one big shortcoming of popular forum sytems. They do not allow all individual or daily messages to be delivered / replied to / or posted via email, A large percentage of amphicar-lovers subscribers opt for the email delivery rather than having to go on line and see what is new. I actually built a bridge between yahoogroup and the web forum but 98% of users still opted for Yahoogroup. This was after spending lots of time and $$$ for the software, additional image library modules, hosting, etc.

It had also been suggested that we might run both the forum and the yahoo group. Again, feedback was that doing so would break up the amphicar community into competing silos.

Being that I am still not working, I can get the two forums up and running again soon. If you want to check out the running one just visit http://amphicar770. com/forums/
As in the past, I do not care if I keep the list on Yahoo or move it to a web forum. However, I will lean toward whatever the majority deems most useful.

Mike

Creating, printing and mailing a newsletter is huge work. Especially
unpaid volunteer work. Perhaps its time to look at The Club to sponsor a
forum style web site like www.metalmeet. com has. Anyone can create a
thread. Lots of room for pictures, how tos, stories etc. Parts of web
can still be managed by the editor-like close up with owners articles,
etc. Should be interlinked with Club Website thus making for a very
interactive site. I am just glad I am not in Eds shoes! And I hope he is
recovering from what got him down. Later Dave the -2 degree Wave
