That's an S-8 SC (single contact) socket so there are a number of
bulbs to choose from:

93 = 13W
1141 = 18W
1073 = 23W
1156 = 27W

I thought the pole light lens is glass so heat shouldn't be an issue
like on the front marine light.

Hi Ken and thanks for the info on the bulbs.
I just got two stern lights from Hugh. They are a meter long and in good condition. They have Hella Lens very clear and very plastic. Not glass but just as clear and maybe better cuz they are not so heavy swinging on the end of that long pole. I thought the lens were glass too but not these and they sure look NOS.
