Amphicar for sale - 02-13-2008, 09:33 PM

It is with great sadness that I have listed my 1964 Amphicar for sale on ebay. Unfortunately, business concerns dictates the need to sell. It is the last of my toys I wish to sell, but unfortunately, the most saleable and valuable.

Please look at the auction and the many pictures if you have any interest. As a bonus, I will deliver it to Mt. Dora for free if the buyer wishes. I was at Mount Dora with the car for the last three years, and last year had the honor of taking Dave the Wave for a nice long swim. He had really nice things to say about the car. If anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to chat with them.

This is a nice green Amphi and he bought a new interior kit from me last year so you can bet the interior is perfect, proper tangerine colours.
Will miss seeing Arial at the swim ins if car sells

Thats too bad about interior-with the original it probably was worth 120K! **Honestly whoever buys that car will get a great running ,swimming car. Ariel is a fun guy too bad he has to sell.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Here is the update.

I sold the car at Russo & Steele's inaugural South Florida auction at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which was run the same weekend as the Barrett Jackson extravaganza in West Palm Beach, and coincidentally, the same weekend as the Mt. Dora meet.

The auction was slow going, but they got the bidding up to $45,000.00 and agreed to charge me no commission, so I made the deal. Not the best seller price, I feel, but who knows where the market is heading. Factoring the present value of money, and not knowing when or where it would sell for more, I decided to move on. The one thing I can say is that this is the first and only collectible car that I ever made a profit on, so that also factored into my decision making process. The buyer paid $49,500.00 with commission, and I feel that they got a very good deal, considering the condition of the car and its originality. I hope they are Amphi people and that they have fun with it!

On another note, a right hand drive Amphi sold at Barrett Jackson that weekend for $30,000.00. It was not in especially good condition, being a "20 footer" at best. The interior was incorrect and the paint had rust bubbles all over, and under the water line especially, so I can only imagine what was going on in there. Does anyone know anything about this car? Surely it is very rare, being a right hand drive. Here is the link to the auction results: Barrett-Jackson - The World's Greatest Collector Car Events™

Hope you all had fun at the Swim In. I am on the hunt for another Amphi to restore, so I will see you all up there one of these years.
