I have discovered a new (to me anyway) way to look for holes in the
hull. I waited until after dark, turned off the lights in the garage
and used a bright (100W) shop light under the hull to highlight the
pinholes. WOW! Looked like a clear star filled night in the bilge! I
found over 100 pinholes this way.

Marty,

I have been using POR-15 epoxy putty
(http://www.por15.com/puttys.html) . As it's water soluable, you can
apply it with wet fingers and smooth it out real nice. It cures rock
hard and seems to work out well. They say it even cures underwater.

For the lacing (rust that looks like Swiss Cheese) can be
repaired/strengthend with their glass mat and some POR-15 epoxy
paint.

I prefer to weld pin holes. Wire feed works good for me
building up a bead and sealing the leak. It doesn't generate
enough heat to warp anything, but if you happen to be welding
exactly under say the heater or fuel hoses, be very careful!
It will get hot enough to catch your attention.... hopefully
nothing more exicting! Works best with a clean bilge area!
And don't forget to protect the area again from rusting as you
just burned off any paint, etc.

It would seem so, but it is the section under the engine and not easy
or cheap to replace. The holes aren't close together or very large.
The remaining steel is still viable and solid. With the use of the
epoxy POR-15 products, I feel confident that it will be OK.
