It got way up to 42 degrees today and we both said "We should go
swimming", so I greased all the nips, checked vital fluids and with 3
little girls life preserved in the back seat we were off to Anchor
Inn.

The river was as smooth as glass today and our engine is running so
good, I guess the walleye weren't biting though, a few of the fishing
boats close to where we were splashing in and going out, splashing in
and going out moved on.

Do all Amphicars have an excess of gasoline, exhaust or bilge aroma?
Ours seems to have quite a bit more than we would like. We are
forced to drive with the windows down while the top is up. There are
no exhaust leaks from the engine assembly all the way to the end of
the muffler, no pat, pat, pat, pat on my hand around the gasket
joints. Our car seems to really suck the gas; it is clearly running
too rich.

Any suggestions on the subject that may help reduce or explain what
we are riding around in would be greatly appreciated.

Marty, see note about oil filler cap yesterday but the most likely cause is
air leaks around the back seat / convertible top area, the engine fan pushes
air forward under pressure and if the back seat isn't a good fit or if the
flexible seals that fit at each end of the bulkhead where it meets the rear
panels aren't airtight then air and fumes can be blown past.

That makes a lot of sense now that you explain it that way, we were
thinking maybe exhaust was coming in from behind the back seat. What
should we look for in flexible seals?
