I just saw a car in the water!!!!! - 11-19-2001, 08:58 AM

It was 55 plus degrees Sunday, and as we were swimming with our top
down in Wisconsin's Rock River, cruising under the I-90 Bridge a few
times like we usually do. It is so cool to see people glance down at
us in the water and then quickly turn their whole body and plaster
themselves against their window for a second real good long as
possible look. We usually drive slowly under the bridge to let these
people see us as they are flying down the interstate at 80 plus miles
per hour. It is so funny as we see these people reaffirm what they
think they saw, and can only imagine what they say to others in their
vehicle, "I JUST SAW A CAR IN THE WATER, WITH ITS HEADLIGHTS ON, AND
THEY WERE WAVING AT ME!" We think these people will lead better
life's from this point on just because they were fortunate enough to
see one of the most fashionable cars in history, an Amphicar, and
swimming.

I'm beginning to understand the meaning of Amphicar ownership. I'm an owner but
my car is not in the water yet (or on the road, for that matter). But I live
near the Bilgemaster (Bill Connelly) who invited me for a ride on Saturday. We
left his house and first stopped for gas. A instant crowd of people appeared
asking a million questions. It turns out they all followed us to the river in
their cars just to see 'Old Bouy' swim. As the Bilgemaster said, 'Get used to
it'.
