Junkyard Wars

This is off subject, but so good I have to share it with you! I just
saw a show on The Learning Channel (TLC) called the the "Junkyard
Wars" where teams in England with full tools salvage through Scrap
yards to build a machine to solve a particular problem. They have 10
hours to design, find components, and weld their idea together to
compete against each other.
Actually not that far off subject, as one of tonite's challenges was
to build a machine to rescue a sunken Mini (small english car). The
entries were innovative and the winner surprised us.
I need to ask our good friend David if you have ever run across these
wild English guys in your travels? Some of the competing teams
tonite on the demolition machines were the Chaos Crew from Yorkshire
and the Beach Boys from Cornwell.
If any of you get TLC on your cable, the next show is Dec 6th at 8:00
EST and I highly recommend it!!!!

Oh yes, I know that show ! Raising the Mini was the same series as the
challange to build an Amphibious vehicle. They found my website and I worked
with them to come up with ideas for the vehicles (it's a bit more structured
than it appears !) The final race was between a floating car and a boat with
wheels. I was going to be the judge on the show but when they filmed it
(about 2 years ago) I was working on a contract where I just couldn't get a
day out so Tim Dutton stepped in to judge.

I spoke to the producers a few months ago, the latest series has just
finished here, it's very good, the challanges include building a fire
engine, a machine to cut corn, a steam car, a device to throw a Rugby ball
and a Hot Rod. You should see that series on US TV next year but they are
also filming a version in the US for the US market that is almost
omplete - and one of the teams in the UK series this time were "a bunch of
American Computer nurds" - who do very well !

As Paul says, it's worth watching, as well as Junkyard Wars the show might
be listed under it's UK name of Scrapyard Challange.

David,
Thanks for the info. I might have known you were somehow involved in
this cool idea! I have found a website for all of you with more info
including how to register to participate. Who wants to do it??

Junkyard Wars

Hello fellow Amphi Owners,

If you are still full of Turkey, and haven't watched too much TV this
weekend, Tonite (Sunday) at 8:00 pm (EST), Junkyard Wars is having a
two hour special. Three international teams are building vehicles to
climb a mountain, go across a desert, and of course, cross the river!

Should be a blast to see what they come up with! It is on TLC
(The learning channel).

There is NO chance to watch it here in Germany! TLC is not broadcasted over
here. So I would be very pleased if someone could record it on VCR and could
send me a copy. Of course I will reimburse all expenses (as long as you
won?t have to buy a VCR recorder first).
Thanks a lot,
Ren? Pohl

Re: Junkyard Wars

Well the show sure was entertaining. Really makes you appreciate how truly special and amphibious car is :-) An amphicar with some ground clearance might have beaten all three teams.

Junkyard Wars

Just watched the 2-hour special on The Learning Channel of the program Junkyard
Wars. There were three teams, British, American, and Russian. I
was surprised to see Rene Pohl as the Capitan of the Russian team. He was their
amphibious vehicle expert. It showed several short scenes of
Amphicars, and I think it will be repeated Wednesday night. Earl in Arkansas

Re: Junkyard Wars

Rene,
Can you play a tape made in the U.S. NTSC recording format or will
you require it in PAL?
