Wheels Substitutes

Does anyone know what other wheels fit the Amphicar? My bodyman wants to
sandblast and paint the originals and I have to put something on the body to
move it in the interm .Thanks John Croshier

=======

According to the old "Universal Parts Listing" at
http://www.amphicar.com/uni.htm , the following item might help you:

"RIMS - MID 60'S FORD FAIRLANE 13" WORK BUT DON'T LOOK EXACT."

In addition to the above homegrown tip, an earlier posting by David Chapman
to this List found in its Archives at
http://www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/m2028.html advises, "[...] Best
of all is to find a set of (very rare) Mercedes 14inch 5J wheels that fit
Amphi and allow original hubcaps to fit, these will then allow a 165x14
[radial tires -b] which gives the same overall size as the original crossply
(biasbraced)"

If anyone has any further tips for this or any other Amphicar parts
substitutions, please take a few moments to share these for posterity at
http://www.amphicar.net/partstips.html .

Re: Wheels Substitutes

There is also a 5 stud Ford wheel that fits, cheap and easily available. I think
it might be Ford Fairlane or some other late 60s Ford.

My Mercedes Wheels fit fine, either the 14 in or the 15 in from the 60s,
70, or 80s. I dont have any of the 90s

Re: Wheels Substitutes

The original steering wheel comes from 60s DKW. But there might be not many
of those in your country either.
