Tranny Question (615) - 04-15-2002, 06:22 AM

Brian
On the subject of drive shafts, the manual i have
makes no mention of the springs situated on the drive
shafts, to keep the the shafts correctly located when
entering the water. I believe it was a later mod, also
the transmission mountings had a mod, the bolt which
screws into mounting was extend so it passes to the
bottom and an addtional mounting and nut is added i
have a copy of this mod if you want it, it just stops
excessive vibration, which can result in the gear
lever being pulled out of gear.
Hope this of use.

Tony,
After searching the archives I find no information on tranny mount
modifications. Therefore, I will gladly accept your offer
on the mount modifications.
I can understand the need for modifying the original mount set up as my body
man pointed out large cracks in the welds
securing the mount housing (passenger side). Apparently, there is a lot of
force applied to this area.
Thanks for offering and I'll look forward to receiving your info.

There's a article in the January/February 2001 club newsletter
(Tech Center, page 5) on mods to the tranny mounts. You can
find it in the on-line club archives, or preserved "forever"
on the Amphicar Archive CD. But when I indexed the CD, I
didn't index the text inside the PDF files, so you have to
pull them up individually. If I do another version of the CD,
I'll try to remember to index that PDF material too.
