Hi Amphi Members!


I just wanted to announce that I now have my very own Amphicar project underway,
courtesy of Mike Echemann in Illinois. My Amphi is VIN 101808, and is a green
1967.

This is just the start of the project, and my Amphi doesn't swim or even run
yet. So far, it's just about dried out after getting some serious rain (no top)
on the trip to San Diego. (Not that it ever rains here; we just closed out the
year with a total rainfall of less than 3 inches.) I'll try to get a web site up
within a few weeks. My Amphi welcoming party was a bit distracted by coming home
to find hundreds of bees inside my house. Looks like a swarm decided my
fireplace chimney was a great new home, so I have to address my bee problem
first!

Even an Amphi in need of extensive surgery is still the center of attention. The
transport driver said that, in his 15 years, this was the first Amphi that he
ever moved, and he kept seeing cars on the freeway slow down and do a
double-take as they passed him. As we unloaded the Amphi in front of my home, I
counted (yes, I was counting) seven passers-by who had to stop and ask questions
or simply say they had seen another Amphi somewhere previously. The attention is
a bit overwhelming.

Congratulations Ed,
I'm just doing the final touches on a restoration, up here in Santa
Barbara, of a White 67. I've really enjoyed the project and wouldn't
be surprised if I track down another Amphi. to restore in the future.
I hope to see some pictures of your new project soon. Try to get up
to Puddingstone (interstate 10 and 210) on May 4th. I think there's
going to be about 6 Amphi's in attendance, at that informal meet, and
several more owners. I'm going to try to drive my White Amphi there
from Santa Barbara. That could be amusing.
