Boat-car pulled from river days after getting stuck

A boat-car has been pulled ashore after being stuck in a white-water
river in New Jersey for a week and a half.

It took 11 men, two giant air bags, 500ft of cable, two boats and
gallons of bottled water to get the car out of the Delaware River.

It was the third attempt to rescue the turquoise convertible 1961
Amphicar after owner William Syx ran it aground near Lambertville on
June 30.

The 46-year-old and his two female passengers were rescued by the
coast guard four hours later.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says the only damage was caused by algae
covering the wheels and hubcaps.

Russell Davis, owner of Seahunt Diving and Marine in Salem, got the
car on dry land with the help of colleagues, passers-by, Mr Syx and
some of his friends.

They set up a pulley system using the cable and strapped giant rubber
bags to the car so it could be lifted off the rocks and floated to
calmer waters. Mr Syx then steered it ashore.

He says he's run the car aground before - in Lake Erie and in the
Potomac, Hudson and Cuyahoga Rivers. He's also been stranded in the
Atlantic Ocean.

According to Billy he didn't even talk to this person.
He never ran aground in Lake Erie, the Potomac, Hudson
and Cuyahoga rivers. The Atlantic Ocean thing was
getting stuck on the beach, not in the ocean.

I really wish reporters would get their stories right.
If anyone was in doubt before about news stories
being true, or made up by the reporter now you know:
They tell 1/2 or less of the truth, the rest they make
up for "ratings".

I was standing beside Billy when he mentioned the above bodies of
water. The lady he was talking to was a reporter for the Philly
Enquirer. (I have pictures) Billy was telling her all the places
he "SWAM" Crusty, including my distant backyard, Lake Erie and the
Cuyahoga. He proceeded to inform her that he has thousands of
operating hours and over one hundred thousand miles in Crusty. It was
then that Billy made the comment that after all those hours he has
had very FEW mishaps and briefly, in like 5 words, mentions being
swamped on the beach in the Atlantic, and elegantly follows up with
the fact that there was NEVER a single injury.

Billy was very articulate and well poised considering the
incredible pressures that faced him. Dealing with the media can be
difficult at best and I felt Billy did a great job. How anyone could
have misunderstood a single word he spoke is beyond me. Shame on the
reporter. Such a grand statement should have been verified.
