bearings and parts - 01-05-2003, 10:23 AM

I looked at that particular part a bit differently. Having learned the
part number before from Hugh. I would not consider it right to share
that in this particular setting. I stand by what I said about the hours
of trial and error. It is easy after the fact to copy.
There has been and hopefully always be a love hate relationship with
Hugh. Part of the "fun" of this vehicle is to try to repair with out
going to Hugh. Many have been succesful with this.
What this group has done is force Hugh to be quicker in making/finding
parts. He has to realize that when a part is too expensive or not made
available others will fill the void.
Hugh has called me very mad about parts. I have found myself fighting on
the "front lines" for parts and pricing. Before hoods, engine mounts,
windshields, wind shield rubbers and bumpers became available. The guys
wanting to make or distribute called me. I am all for improving parts
availabilty and pricing.
For a little while Hugh did stop selling trans parts. He wanted to
inventory and keep enough parts for him to rebuild his transmissions.
That was a wake up call. Most parts are available but not all. We may
get that replacement bearing down to 35 bucks but watch that other
double.
When Hugh put a hold on trans parts it made me realize how easy and
affordable we have it. There are others out there that want to buy Hughs
business. The one guys goal is to substantially raise Amphicar only
parts prices. The other is to ship the whole thing to Europe.
So no I am not against finding parts and replacements. We just need to
consider the consequences of our actions.
All of this reminds me that I need to call Allen Woodcock with a part I
want produced. Now what about those formed rubber mats? The heavy duty
release bearing? How about those little clips that hold window fuzzy?
