Muratic Acid

I've been dealing with rusty cars for 20 years, but I only just discovered
Muratic Acid (Thanks to Hugh Gordon). The stuff really is miraculous when it
comes to removing rust. It takes it all off.

But one warning, the fumes are really nasty. This stuff isn't like paint or
solvent where an open window will provide enough ventilation. USE IT ONLY
OUTSIDE, or have some big fans to move air through your garage. Even in
outside in open air, you will breath more of it than you want if your are not
careful.

Roger

Re: Muratic Acid

Hey Guys, I know I don't write much anymore, but sometimes I need to chime in.
Muriatic Acid (not Muratic) is another name for Hydrochloric Acid. The "fumes"
are from the chlorine AND from the acid, so you kind of get a double kick.
Another thing to keep in mind, besides the need for adequate ventilation, is the
need to wear acid resistant gloves. Latex gloves are NOT acid resistant. Nor
are vinyl gloves. You really need butyl rubber gloves, but over shorter periods
of time you can get away with using neoprene or nitrile. Be careful with this
stuff, it will HURT you! The acid will eat through your skin and clothing. The
vapors (not fumes, fumes come from a metal when it is melted, vapors are what
evaporates) of both acid and chlorine are extremely caustic and will cause lung
damage. Blessed Be,Randy
