Long drive...

Saturday evening I was invited to a resevoir with my nephew and
family. I hopped into the Amphi and headed out. It was 101 degrees
and 65+ miles to go. It was the single longest drive in her since the
resto. 65 MPH on the hiway most of the way, slightly above the center
on the water temp gage, and did I mention it was friggin hot! Great
fun except for the roasted neck I now am sporting.

Did some beach landings which never fails to impress the crowds. Had
my youngest passenger to date. Shyler is just 17 days old. However
she was as impressed as any 2 week old might be.

Re: Long drive...

John,
are you sportin' a larger engine or the standard 1147? Don't think I get mine to
65 mph with my 1147.

Re: Long drive...

Randy,

Mine will easily cruise at 65 with the 1147.

Randy,

Nope, she's the bone stock 1147 with drippy carb (for now) and
all. I have only added the Petronics ignition for performance and
safety. She takes all the runway to get to 65 (It's will do 70, but
my front end needs some attention), but she gets there.

Re: Long drive...

Randy,

I have two Amphi's, one with the stock engine and the other with a
1300 engine. The stock Amphi will get 72 MPH on the flats but it
takes a bit of time to get there. The 1300 will easily get 75 MPH and
I suspect 80 but I don't have enough miles on the engine to run it
that fast yet. My front end is in good shape and the cars handle just
fine on the roads at high speeds.

Guess I need to check some things. New air cleaner, timing, carb cable. Maybe
the carb is not opening all the way.

Re: Long drive...

I've got a standard 1147 never rebuilt and can manage 70 with no
problems. I do notice that that drops to around 60 when the temp and
humidity are high. The trip from Dave's house to mine is a little
better than 90 miles on the freeway. The few times I did it were
always a rip. Now it's about 20 miles or so to Dixon to get into the
water.

Same here, no problem getting to 70 mph with pedal left with the original
1147cc's. in my cars.
Mike

And that's fast enought in an Amphicar too..
