By now you have probably figured out that you can replace the
transmission plug without raising the transmission. It's a nasty job
that requires patients. You must slide your arms around the
transmission and your hands down between the bottom of the transmission
and the hull. I remember working the wrench with only my finger tips,
one hand for working the wrench, and one for finding the plug. I used
an open-ended wrench. I recall a box wrench was too hard to work in the
tight space. Also I worried that no matter how careful I was, dirt
would find its way onto the plug or threads in the transmission causing
the plug to leak. I was too stupid to think about raising the
transmission a little by removing the two mounting bolts. That would
have helped a little. Now I have a oil pumping device that I purchased
at a local boating supply store. Sunday afternoon I replace the motor
and transmission oils in my two Amphies in about two hours without
spilling a drop. .
