Engine colors

Anyone out there have any good pictures of a stock original engine
compartment? I want to repaint my engine and know the block is supposed
to be black and the valve cover gold. Any other items need to be painted
gold? Anyone have the color codes?

Craig,

The Engine is a satin black (bar-b-que paint works well), only the
valve cover is a Rover Copper color. Most everything else is black
except for the bilge area is the car color. I have a pic of a 600
mile car that I will email ya a few of.

John

Re: Engine colors

Craig:

This is in response to your posting below about that gold engine valve cover
paint:

According to David Chapman's 'Amphicar Colours' webpage at
http://www.amphicars.com/actcolor.htm, "The Amphicar engine was originally
painted black, it was neither gloss or matt but an in between colour
described as semigloss. The only part that was not black was the rocker box
(valve) cover and that was painted a metallic gold colour. The exact shade
is an Austin/Leyland/Rover colour called Reynard Gold Metallic, it was used
on the Mini and some other production cars around 1979 - if your lucky you
might find an aerosol of it." David also offered a posting to this very
List back in '99 with even more info about engine color variations, which
you can still read in the List Archives at
http://www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/m472.html . There's also my own
posting from '99 about a source for Triumph Engine Paints at
http://www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/m888.html . Again for the
record, that source is:

"Team Triumph" at http://www.teamtriumph.com/
695 Summit Street, NW
P.O. Box 3594
Warren, Ohio 44485
Tel. 330-392-7176

There's also John Williamson's tip of the same year about a more commonly
available off-the-shelf shade of valve cover paint in the List Archives at
http://www.escribe.com/automotive/amphicar/m895.html :

VALVE COVER PAINT.
I USED DUPLI-COLOR AUTO SPRAY FROM WAL-MART OR AUTO PARTS HOUSE. LOOKS TO BE
A PERFECTTT MATCH. IT SKU#0 26916 13286 4
LABEL SAYS DS GM 286 CAMEL M

Best of luck!
