OK, I may have been under my Amphi too long. I just took a look into the trunk,
and I spotted a rectangular tube bracket, welded to the inside of the hull under
where the heater box sits. I can't remember what this thing is for. There's a
picture of it at:

Can anyone refresh my mind about this bracket?

Ed,
The bracket is one of the several places that Amphicar thought the
jack should mount. Slide the lifting part of the jack into the tube
and put a little pressure against the side wall to hold it still.

Yes, that does make sense. OTOH, I'm inclined to not put the spare tire and jack
in my Amphi. In thinking back over the past 20 years, with experience on 4 cars,
I only had one flat tire. And that could have been remedied much easier with an
inflater can. And 75 pounds less weight up front couldn't hurt either.
