Members, I'm very much interested in getting a R&P set that would
reduce engine rpm. I would like to install a Toyota Fuel injected
engine of about 1.5 litres. This would give somewhere around 70 or 80
horsepower. I am a little concerned about the strength of the
transmission but feel that less shifting would offset the increased
horsepower. If a new R&P cannot be manufactured, the engine choice
would have to be something like the twin cam unit used in the Toyota
MR-2. This engine will run at 6000 rpm all day but would make a LOT
of exhaust heat doing it. In addition the MR-2 engine is about 130HP
which I think is too much.

Hi,
The ring and pinion is one way to approach it, the other way is to
change forth gear ratio. I know some people are looking into these
changes but either way you would have to use a stronger engine to
make it work well. Eventually, most Amphicars will probably be
switched to 1500's anyway since there were many more of those made
and until a later date.

I think it would be fun to install a Wankel engine in an Amphi.
Perhaps from something like an RX3 engine. Those engines can scream
at high rev's all day and hold up. With these engines a transmission
gear change wouldn't be necessary at all and it's just possible the
engine would fit in the small space of the lower rear body.
