Warehouse AMPHICAR - 04-28-2004, 07:12 PM

Ok I got one of the Warehouse Amphicars. And it was pickeled. The
engine was topped off with oil and so were the tranny's.I was told
the best way was to just raise the front slightly and let it drain
out the rear.Any other suggestions?I know I will need to pull the
plugs and let the oil blast out of the cylinders after I turkey baste
out as much as possible.I know I saw the link to what/where/how much
to refill the fluids. Can someone give me a link to where I might find
the specs.I have a manual coming but I am a little impatient. Randy

Congratulations on getting one! The fact that someone had the presence of
mind to load up the engine and trannies with extra oil to ameliorate
corrosion is a fine indicator that you probably got yourself an
easier-than-average fixer-upper.

As for the draining of all that extra oil, remember the immortal words of
East Coast Amphicar's Billy Syx: "An oily bilge is a happy bilge." Assuming
your hull bottom is reasonably sound, just pull all the drain plugs and let
it all flow out the bilgeplug hole. Of course, you should have more than
one oil drain tub handy.

As for manuals and other useful resouces and tips, check out the Club's
"Repair and Restoration" page at http://www.amphicar.com/restoration.htm .
