radio

Hi Craig,

I Installed my radio in the glove box on a piece of 3/4"Pine to
isolate it from any metal and used a Window antenna it works great
and you can shut the door and no one can see it

Doug

PS. if it has a metal case make sure you cover it so any wrench etc
that hits it you may short out the radio

Radio

Anyone got any ideas where one can acquire a Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio with
the white knobs and buttons on this side of the Atlantic ocean? There are
sellers on Ebay in Germany but their ship time is 6 weeks.

Re: Radio

Leroy;

I'm willing to bet that if you pay for expedited shipping from europe
you can get it as fast as you like. Drop the seller a note and ask.
I buy stuff from Thailand (jewerlry parts) and I can get it via Fed-
Ex in 72 hours (for an international package 72 hours is overnight
more or less).

It's worth a try.

I've had Dave working on my on and off since I bought if from Roger.
You couldn't deal with nicer people. Mine has been running so well
that I was actually able to pass someone on the Illinois Tollway (and
he wasn't earing a hat and he didn't have his blinker on for 5
miles). Both Nick Borchadt and Mike Echeman can verify that I do
drive the amphicar like "a bat out of hell" as Mike put it.

Have no fears in buying / shipping from us Europeans ! Yes it takes 6 weeks to
ship by sea but ordinary air mail (delivered to you via USPS) takes between 5
and 10 days, it only costs about 30% more and so unless you are shipping
something heavy and of low value it's the way to go. A radio would I expect cost
about $40 to ship from here air mail.

If you need things quicker UPS, DHL etc reliably deliver parcels to the US from
Europe within 24 hours, but are expensive, if you need their speed then arrange
it from the US end, that is ask your local office to collect from the European
address, for some reason it is much cheaper.

The radio is worth the effort - they look and work great in Amphicar.

Radio

Bilgey here, communicating once again from the middle of the Potomac
with the 'Device' with another product recommendation for the cheap at
heart. Sure, one Labor Day weekend I aspire to let Billy Syx slot in
one of those super-nifty swivel-faceplate CD Player-FM-AM jobs, but
apart from my Supertuner 8 Track, I can heartily recommend the "Sports
Radio" sold for about 5 bucks at Family Dollar joints coast to coast.
The ribbed bottom and odd shape shoves in handily wherever reception is
best, it runs on pair AA batteries instead of a 9 volt, and gets a
strong signal one the road or in the drink. If you're looking for a
cheap or interim "media solution" this is it. For the record it's a
Lenox Sound AM-FM Sports Radio Model PR-35. About 5 bucks at Family
Dollar outlets nationwide.

I bought a period Blaupunkt AM-FM-SW radio off of eBay with white knobs
and buttons. It is swtichable batween 6/12 volt and -/+ ground. Have
not gotten it yet, but have seen pictures of amphis with these type of
radios. Only problem is that they go in Porsches of that vintage, so
you have stiff competition form Porche guys. They are available, but
that makes them a little expensive. not a problem since my Amphicar is
now worth $115,0000.00! Right?

Re: radio

Ariel,

Thanks! Will check it out. Will settle for a dummy plate for now.

I'm sure your car is even worth more than the $115 now!
