When I first got OLD BUOY in '94, I spent a lot of time lurking in the
aisles at the local Boaters World marine supplies joint (website:
http://www.boatersworld.com/) getting supplies for this and that for what
was essentially just a "patch up job" (not a real restoration) on what was
basically a solid ride with a few rust holes here and there. One of the
items I got was a quart of their house brand "Sea Bowld" flat black
copper-infused bottom paint, which just happened to be in their marked-down
paints section. It wasn't their epoxy stuff, or anything fancy like
that...just plain old bottom paint with some copper added to it to give
barnacles indigestion. After a good scrubbing of the underside with 3M
scratchy pads and detergent, I basically slapped on a couple of coats of
this stuff right over the original factory paint, and as far as I could tell
after drying it was a pretty much an exact match for the the original
factory paint after thirty years. That was twelve years ago, and apart from
a basically unnecessary spot touch up I did three years ago, that Sea Bowld
bottom paint has held up like it was bullet-proof, and OLD BUOY probably
sees more road and water action than most Amphis.
Speaking of which, OLD BUOY is well overdue for a full-scale brake system
refurbishing before we head north to Celina, so would anybody willing or
wishing to part with any unneeded brake parts (wheel cylinders, flex hoses,
shoes, etc.) please contact me off-line.
