Time for a new clutch and am considering the options.

Can anyone who has installed John F's Amphi clutch kit share their experience
with it? I have heard some good things but also some concerns about what
happens
if the bearing gets wet.

Mike,
I installed one of John's clutch kits in my Amphicar 1 year ago, and
I would 100%, without hesitation, recommend it to anyone. The entire
kit was the most professionally done replacement Amphicar part I have
ever seen. I knew from seeing the photos of his car that it would be
a Quality part! It was.
My Amphicar and engine are both stock, and John's kit was a simple
installation - no modifications needed at all.
I have had no problems, and I have no concerns, about the throwout
bearing being a problem.

No question - put it in.

Not sure what you mean about a "wet bearing" concern, Mike. I had Gordon Import's roller bearing throwout assembly in Amphi from 1994 (when it was considered an improvement over the solid carbonbearing) until the recent clutch change and had no problem with that one either, despite the recent/renewed 'carbon is better' "discovery". We just returned from our Austin trip and put over 5,500 rolling miles on the car, plus lots of hard water and land driving, including some high altitude "touristing" at the Garden of the Gods & the Air Force Academy. Amphi wasn't too perky at 7,200 feet, but that provided major opportunities for extensive downshifting. A well recommended upgrade. --Larry
