I don't know if there has been any mention of this in the forum. A friend lent me a copy of Ship of Gold. It's a fascinating story on the history, search and recovery of a ship that went down in a storm in the mid 1800's. The ship was carrying a huge amount of gold. A recovered bar sold for 8 million dollars!

I could go on and on about this book and how well written it is. The reason I was handed this tome was because the young treasure hunter in the story drove around in an Amphicar. The Amphicar has only a minor part in the story, but as you may have guessed, it added a lot of color to the story.

I especially enjoyed the book because the main character and I seemed to have things in common. Like what young kid never dreamed of recovering buried or sunken treasure? He drives around in an old diesel Mercedes dreaming of ways to run it on veggie oil. I run my old Mercedeson an alternative brew. Tommy drives an Amphicar. Glenny drives an Amphicar. Tommy uses an old SeaBee amphibion to send supplies and mail to the research ship. Glenny flew a SeeBee for a few years and lived to repeat the scary adventures, too.

Anyway, it's a great read. I took it on vacation last year and nearly had it finished before the plane landed on day one. Good thing there was a book exchange in Mexico.
