After some period of driving my brakes nearly lock up. I have
adjusted the pedal travel to allow the piston to return. Any
ideas??? Very strange What causes this????

You are in need of new brake lines. They swell inside over time and
act as a one way valve of sorts especially when hot from driving. You
can force the fluid into the cylinders, but the cylinders do not have
enough force to return it. This holds your brake shoes to the drums.
See http://www.amphicar.net/minnow/Brake_Lines.htm for some photos of
this problem.

Re: brakes that lock up!!!!

Before I owned an amphi I had a 64 T-bird. There is a small hole in the bottom of the master cylindar which acts as a releaf for presure for the shoes to backoff as needed when brakes are not applied. This hole isblocked by the pistonas brakes are applied. If the hole gets pluged with crud etc. brake lockup can happen. I installed all new brake system on my Amphi so waven't had this problem but I am assuming the system is the same. Scott W.
