Auto Transport Recommendations - WA state to PA

Hi All,

No Amphi content here but I am turning to the collective wisdom of the group.

I am not sure why but I think I am going to purchase a Citroen that is located in Washington state. (Hmm, oddball cars must appeal to me).

I thought about flying out and driving back but the thought of a 2,800 mile drive just does not inspire me. I am now considering hiring a transporter although the horror stories I hear make me hesitant. I am thus looking for any recommendations.

I do think I would need to have a single driver, single truck or trailer in order to minimize risk. Citroens have a hydraulic suspension and thus require anyone loading and unloading to pay attention to what they are doing. If a Citroen is chained down and someone were to start the engine, the car would lift and would likely tear the tie downs right off the car.

If anyone here is traileringa vehicleout west and has an empty trailer coming even partway back east then do let me know. Alternatively, if you have any first hand recommendations then let me know that too. I looked at FedEx Vehicle Transport but that will cost me as much as the car itself!!

Thanks.

Mike Israel

Mike,

Yes, there can be problems with transport companies! Besides my Amphicar, I have also gotten into BMW Isettas.Remember, you looked at that one for me.
Have had good experience with Smart Auto. Decent price for enclosed transport if necessary.

Don't let Tony's Transport out of Spokane,WA touch your car! I am still fighting a claim.

Good Luck,

Re: Auto Transport Recommendations - WA state to PA

Mon dieu! It must be French week here on the Liste de L'Amoureaux
d'Amphicar. So, a Citro?n, huh? I adore Citro?ns, especially those
teardroppy old DS saloon cars or their predecessor high end model the
gangstery Traction Avant (11CV?). I've also fostered an inexplicable
attraction over the years towards those weird corrugated panel stepvan
things they used to make. In North America Citro?ns are like the two
dollar bill of vehicles: freakish yet somehow charming.

So, if the one you're considering buying is in decent roadworthy shape
but yet not some priceless fragile concourse-grade collectible, and you
want it transported for nothing or next to nothing, how about posting a
Craigslist rideshare ad in the closest venue to the car in Washington
State? A step above that in terms of price, but also with a modicum of
security (at least they apparently check driving records), might be the
Auto Driveaway Company at www.autodriveaway.com, which has an office in
Seattle. Beyond these free or very low cost alternatives, you have a
whole panoply of other shipping options including the relatively new
online shipping bid service UShip (see www.uship.com) and of course the
various vehicle transport services recommended on this List by other
Amphicar owners over the years.

Regards,
Le Maitre du Bilge

Very true, the DS is fab - and like Amphicar it was the "car of the future" - remember the movieBack To The Future 3 !

Mike, have you bought this:

The SM Maserati is a fabulous vehicle full of all sorts of wierdness - like plastic wheels, much lighter and stronger and because the brakes are inboard they don't melt !

There's another reason to talk about France. A conservative won the electionthere. (Sorry, Libs). He sayshe wants to work with U.S. So, I guess the French are getting fed up with being over run with foreigners pushing their values downthe frogsthroats. Maybe the 35 hour work week will stop also. Thanks for the statue. Liberty! Amphigr66n.
