Out enjoying the sun today and road testing my new rear axles, and
sun burning my head, when the odometer rolled over to 20,000 miles.
That's only 465 miles a year which is probably what I have averaged
since owning the car. That may not sound like much but I've
typically heard of a lot of Amphi's with less than 10,000 miles.
Anyway, looking forward to leak testing it this weekend on the
river. My guess is that if the rivers and lakes were closer to home
then this car would have fewer miles on it.

Oh, one of the axles I replaced apparently wasn't that old. It is
the later style which allows you to grease the u-joint on the tranny
side by reaching thru the tunnel. Need to jack the car and remove
the tire, but a lot easier than going behind the seat and removing
the tunnel seal. The tranny u-joint has minimal play and the wheel
u-joint has no play. I would have re-installed it after replacing
the tranny seal and return the new one back to Hugh, but I figured
it would sound better when I go to sell this thing having the ad
read 2 new axles installed at 20,000 miles. This late style axle
retails for over $500. I figure it has a little more value than the
$50 core deposit that I gave Hugh. It needs a new rubber seal
around the spring. If anyone wants to give me $150 for it plus
shipping, it's yours. If not 100% satified you can send it back.
Saves me the trouble of putting it on E-Bay. At 465 miles/yr my
guess is that this axle has many many years of service life left.
