Body Part (Rear Engine area) replacement - 06-05-2007, 09:13 AM

Hell-o all...

I need some guidance to repair the following....

The Engine area where it meets the back panel. (if the actual bumpers
were removed this would be the bumper) It is (was) all bondo, I want
to replace it with a replacement metal panel if possible. This is for
the lower engine area at the back only.

Does Gordons have this part? or anyone else?

Thanks in advance,

Mark Hill

Hello Mark,

This area is a common damage point since moisture is held in by the
horizontal bumper parts. The ridge that runs down the middle is a
seam formed by the cars rear bottom panel and the vertical rear panel,
so this area is not originally a separate piece of metal. Repairing
extensive rust in this area is often done by forming a replacement
part from a flat strip of sheet metal and simply bending it to form
the curves. Forget trying to form up that original seam since it's
completely unnecessary and benifitial not to have it there anyway. Be
sure to use a lot of good epoxy primer on the new sheet metal and seal
up each of the screws that holds the horizontal bumper parts onto this
area.
