All sorts of Amphibians! - 10-25-2007, 03:27 PM

Hi All,

Every week we have new members joing the amphicar list. Most fill out
a field asking why they are interested in joining. I liked this one
from our newest member, proboat30. That is one big amphicar ...

USCG Master Pass. Vessel Captain in Albany, New York operating 2-Hydra-
Terra 48 Pass. Tour Amphibious Busses on the Hudson River for 4-years
seasonal business with over 90,000 pass.

Hi Pete

Ialso have a 100 ton Masters Charter boat license, but it is a bit of overkill for my Amphi. This is in addition to my Commercial Pilot's license, though the thing I have flown most recently is the Goodyear Blimps. We lived in Pompano Beach (Fort Lauderdale area) for 35 years and that is one of the 3 locations in the country where they have a Goodyear blimp. I've been up numerous times, sometimes for 3 or 4 hours with just two of us. It is not what you know, but who you know and I know the right people there. Vic

Vic,

I just got to know.

Do you wear those special glasses that I have seen you wearing in your Amphicar while flying the blimp?

It is really a very good look!

John -

The special glasses are "Chick Magnets." The disadvantage is that so often the chicks are accompanied !

The funny story about the glasses is that I found them somewhere about 5 or 6 years ago and being of a very serious nature, I thought they might be just the thing for an Amphibian type who tries not to attract attention. However, I was reluctant to wear them andhave people comment"Oh - how dumb !" and similar or worse remarks. Consequently, I decided against "trying them out." Then a couple of years ago, I dared to try them at Mount Dora and discovered to my surprise and delight, that instead of all kinds of negative comments, the onlookers including fellow Amphi nuts thought they were really neat. Life is full of surprises. So they turn out to be some kind of fashion statement appropriate tomy "Split Personality."
