Amphicar shocks - 01-09-2008, 11:01 AM

My amphy seems to bounce when going over bumps in the road. I think new
shocks are in order. Can these be purchased over the counter at NAPA or
some other parts house or must they be purchased from Hugh? If they can
be purchased over the counter does anyone have part numbers for both
the front and rear? Can the be replaced by themselves or do all the
springs need to be replaced at the same time? Thanks for all your help.

Steve,

Just get the shocks from Hugh. You can get them with or without
springs from Hugh. It's cheaper to switch your old springs over to
the new shocks but Hugh has them with springs too.

Also check the front spindle. The bushings sometime seize causing the whole assembly to bounce instead of the normal movement the suspension is supposed to do.

Bite the bullet and buy them from Hugh. He had them on special in
December. He has them on special several times a year. I purchased a
set with the springs. They install in minutes and are completely
adjustable for your preferred ride. AND they have a lifetime guarantee.

Oh Yes, I heartily concur with G: get those shocks from Gordon, do keep
an close eye on that front tire pressure (check it cold and often), roll
with a more-than-half-full gas tank, use water-resistant synthetic
AMSOIL in the bearings, and the road is a joy. Those are the secrets to
pleasant and safe road handling for you, even on bias ply and hour after
hour on the interstates. I've also been adding a couple-few ounces of
Marvel Mystery Oil into the gas tank every fill up and OL' BOUTy really
seems to like it.
