Front Brake Backing Plates

Are the front wheel brake backing plates supposed to be mounted with the cylinders at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock(very top and bottom) as the manual shows or are they mounted with the cylinders at the 10:30 and 4:30 position as I found mine installed from P.O. or factory?
Thanks,
Ted

Early cars were 12 / 6 but on later cars they tilted them back slightly as it gives better protection to the fittings and also reduces chance of sand collecting in drum.
