Taking bets on Roger going to Sabula - 04-23-2008, 03:42 PM

Roger Sallee reminded Me of the engine I ordered. I told him to deliver it to Sabula. He thought about the date and said, that might work. With over 500 visits on the events page My Swim In should be good. Dr. Jack from Louisiana is considering flying up now too. With no time for My own, Cigar Guy offered to come over and do his fiberglass magic. As I am looking at My car, I bet I could get a tray in quickly. I love the way My trays fit! Now it is not as pretty but it will be just fine. Started at 6:15 and had most welded by 8:30. Later Dave the Wave

Hey Dave, tray fit does look great but forget about your car and get working on your customers cars!
Are there any Minnesotans planning on heading to Sabula? KD? Brad S.? You Stillwater folks? I've never been there but plan on attending.

Ok this maybe a dumb question but why don't people make body parts out of Stainless steel ? I know it would cost more but it would be worth it.

I just made some front directional sockets out of Stainless Steel I'm just waiting for the coper contacts to come back from heat treating. I was also thinking about making them out of plastic (ultem). I made some out of aluminium but I was worried they would oxidize(unless I had them anodized).
I will have 2 sets to sell, If there is any interest I will make more.

Hi ,
I would not mix mild steel and stainless steel. There are many issues to
consider: Welding together stainless and mild steel is nothing you do
with D-I-Y knowledge and equipment. You will also have corrosion due to
the difference that always occur when you mix different noble metals ( I
don’t know the eng. expressions….).
Then you have the problem with painting. It’s more or less impossible to
paint stainless without etching the surface.
My suggestion is to use as mild steel as possible, a good etching
primer, a quality paint and sufficient rust proof coating.
The same goes for mixing stainless steel nuts/bolts with standard items.
Don’t!

One other thing that you should consider when you own an Amphi is that
do not use grease with molybedendisulfid together with sliding bearings
of brass.
Med vänliga hälsningar /Best regards
