Re Hagerty insurance, for what it is worth, I have all of my antique car
insurance with Hagerty and have had for about 10 years ever since I encountered
the same kind of problem referred to in this thread - that is when the heirs
to the J.C.Taylor company were unwilling to insure an unfinished vehicle for
me which I found hard to believe.. For 15 or 20 years, I had utilized J.C.
Taylor for my insurance needs and in fact, during that period, I don't remember
ever having any claims. The owner of the company was a very genial gentleman
named Robert ( "Bob" ) Wallace and was very reasonable and in my view
sensible about such situations as we are referring to here. However, Bob Wallace
passed away several years ago and I, too, encountered the same unrealistic
mindset from his offspring who I believe now run the company. I personally met
Frank and Louise Hagerty about that time and discussed various things with them
and concluded that they did view the insurance situation in a sensible and
appropriate way and changed over to them. I would think that one way of
attacking this problem, though it may be too late for you to use this approach,
would be to simply insure the unfinished vehicle for comprehensive alone for a
value you can live with and not admit to its unfinished status. Of course, if
a photograph of the vehicle discloses its actual status straight away, then
I am out of answers. Frank and Louise have largely retired and I, too, have
encountered some minor problems with their company which is now run by their
children. So far, things seem workable, but if things go downhill at some
point, I may find myself in the same predicament as you are in. Victor N.
