Amphicar Swim Seat - 05-23-2008, 07:28 PM

So, what is the deal with two different back seats? I have the spring seat. Why the second option? Looks like it would be even more uncomfortable in the back seat with just that little bit of padding.

Thanks
Dan

Dan,
I get to explain this with every interior kit I sell (we are well over 130 kits sold in std or custom colours)
Amphicars came with spring bottom rear seats. There was an option dealers could sell of a FLOATER custion to sit on top of rear seat, it was same size as spring seat but only 1 1/2 inch thick and a floating foam material in it.
Idea being that you could throw it in lake and swim with it.
Over the years people took out the rear seat and just left the floater in there to give more head room for the kids,, Not thinking that the original carboard type material under the rear seat is not designed to carry any weight bearing load.It alo is much lower than the back rest of the rear seat leaving a gap.,, because of this, I believe they were never sold this way,, People just took rear seat out... then cars got sold and rear seats forgoten about till clean up time a few years later, out to the trash goodby.
Now.. to solve the problem I have come up with a fibreglass rear seat base that when screwed in is solid and strong,I weight over 250lbs and can stand on the base, after installing put my soundproof kit in and you can now talk in your Amphicar and it keeps the heat out of inside of car too.
Next when you order a interior kit from me you have the option of sping kit for rear or replacement type floater, it is now 3 1/2 inches thick to fill up the gape under back rest and give rear pass, some padding,It is not realey a floater anymore thou, You must use the fibreglass base underneath it,
I have a stock of these in NH.
If you want the style of a sping seat and it is missing in your car you can still get it. Inna in NJ has fond a way to do it and works good too. so can tell you all how to do that to.
the price for Amphicar interior kits is $1300 and floater types are $1350.00
a Amphicar crest on rear backrest is $50 extra.
Full supper kits are now $2100.00.. include fibregass base floors soundproofing and more..
Converable tops in black or white are $300.00 and othere colour are avalable for not much more,
