Re: Light bulb for pole light for Dolores

Tommy -

Humm? Ya just never know what's out there. I've been wrong before, probably will be again. I'm man enough to admit it. Maybe there were some in plastic afterall. Go with the low wattage bulb. Less heat and not so much glare at night. I used 6 wide lens LEDs arainged in a circle for one pole. No heat, plenty of light for fellow boaters and little glare. I also placed red LEDs in my gages that operate with my prop light so I can see them without turning on my lights.

Slick trick John - the red LEDs in your instruments tied to the red Prop
light. Are these LEDs in separate holes IN ADDITION to the factory "white"
illumination bulbs ?

Incidentally - for anyone interested - Peter Fredsall and I were taped for
the new TV series Titled:
"101 Cars you must drive" It comes on in the east at 9:00 to 9:30 for
just half an hour and profiles 5 cars each segment. Check your TV guide for
time in your area. There is a web site _www.speedtv.com_
(http://www.speedtv.com) which may give a clue when the Amphi segment is coming up, but can say for
sure.

On the pole light situation, in over 10 years, I never had any problems with
any of my 3 running lights ( actually, 2 bulbs, of course) - then all of a
sudden, neither worked. I presumed a fuse or wiring problem. It turned out the
pole light was simply corroded and after tightening the brass holder for the
bulb and cleaning up the existing bulb and associated wires, it works fine. I
did not think to look ( or at least I don't remember ) to see what bulb size
was there. I'm also curious now as to whether my lens is glass or not,
though it is the original and I believe it is glass. In the front navigational
light, the socket was all corroded and after I cleaned it up, it now performs
perfectly. Here I was anticipating all kinds of fun with the wiring system and
sadly, it was a nothing type job !

I slipped the small LED leads in beside one of the existing sockets (no new holes) and aimed them towards each gage. LEDs only have a specific wiewing angle, so get the widest you can find. At night with props on, I get red instruments, with headligts on, I get white. I also hooked a white one up in the trunk and engine bay wired to my marine lights. During the day you hardly notice the LED, but at night it illuminates the trunk area well enough to see.

Re: Light bulb for pole light for D...

I believe Gordons is making replacement lenses that are plastic. A couple of years ago I dropped my lense and broke it*and paid a good sum to replace it because there is a limited amount of originals I believe. When I bought the replacement glass, they mentioned the cheaper plastic so I bought that too and safely stored my rare glass one. I*agree that no one would notice as they do look identical until you tap them. I'm almost sure they said they were repros but it's possible I remember wrong.
