Club thoughts

Cigar Guy and I talked in the past about a museum or a move able display. I think due to economy , the local/regional swims will become more important. I know The Club holds lots of interesting bits of Amphicar history. Cigar guy thought about a trailer idea. This might be a way for most members to be able to see our archives. I would like to see this idea discussed. Later Dave the Wave

Re: Club thoughts

Dave,
I still love the trailer idea. We can bring it to events around the country. A trailer like Gord Souter's would be perfect. It would take time to set up but once it is done it would be easy to update. We could set up a poster book style rack that would be giant pages to flip for all articles and photo's... We could have thousands of them in one small area. We can have maybe a transmission split in half as a display (You of course would have to do it!) Maybe have a wiring harness on one wall with all accessories attached. It would be a fun science project for all that would want to get involved. Let's say I have it here in Chicago, I go to Celina and maybe Ron Trudeou can bring it to The Boston swim then maybe someone in Boston who is going to Lake of the Ozarks can bring it there. Then back to maybe Dave's place or someone with a heated storage area for the winter months that would like to donate the space for free to the club, Then maybe the following year To California with the Gordons to Poda's swim, then off to Texas or Michigan. I really think it could work. The club would have to purchase the trailer and display racks, posterboards, etc. We would form a commitee to run our (Museum on Wheels) We would have to insure the trailer under the club so it is covered for anyone that tows it. I would be happy to head up something like this with Dave since we are only a hour apart and many Amphi owners are in our area that can give a helping hand.
Dave, I am glad you brought this up as I have thought about this for a long time. Just think 10 years from now looking back at a collage of photo's and articles and memories all stored in one place for all to see. It would be nice to have something like this for all to see..

Re: Club thoughts

We would need to categorize what we currently have to see exactly what we do have, which really isn’t that much. Mostly ligature with a few annual gifts that have been given throughout the years. The entire club’s archives fit into two and a half boxes of which currently is in my heated shop. It is supposedly everything the club has. One of the things we did a year ago was have everything gathered up and sent to me so it can be passed on. I have been adding tapes, magazine, newspaper articles, etc of all the events and coverage.

Re: Club thoughts

Ron,
It's not so much what we have, its what everyone out there has. Roger Salee for example has tons of neat stuff to copy that people have never seen. I am sure stuff would come out of the woodwork from everyone around the country to make a display thats second to none! Can you imagine what Hugh might have hidden away?

Re: Club thoughts

I agree with Cigar Guy about people loaning or donating. Good record keeping will keep everyone happy. Also needs to be understood that not everything donated may be displayed. Due to doubles or space, etc. I will donate some rare can huggies. Later Dave the Wave
